Şişli Municipality and Social Support Service Management
Şişli Municipality’s social support service management aims to work on the social, economic and psychological problems of the people living within the borders of the municipality and to ameliorate their living conditions.
The Municipality aims to support applicants and clients in accordance with the fundamental rights and principals asserted within the human rights declaration of the United Nations. With the approach of being a social state and participatory democratical social municipality, it aims to be exemplary in solving, avoiding, preventing and facilitating the problems of the applicants and clients.
Within the administration of the Municipality, there are social service specialists, psychologists, sociologists, and family and couple therapists working for the social service, psychology and sociology departments. These professionals prepare social examination reports, using different methods of social sciences such as group and individual interviews, home visits, family visits and research.
The review committee scrutinizes social research reports based upon the cases and problems clients experience and tries to facilitate and solve their problems.
The Migration Service Unit, a unit within the Municipality, offers consulting services regarding regular and irregular migration to migrants under temporary protection. The unit works in cooperation with the respective public institutions to protect victims, fight human trafficking, work to help stateless people, initiate the integration process and combat irregular migration. By supporting research carried out on migration, the victims of human trafficking are accommodated in shelters and directed to protective institutions in cooperation with public institutions and NGOs. The Unit focuses its work mainly on the health issues but also conducts activities regarding law, education and social support. These activities are carried out with those who are of migrant and refugee status.
