KADAV
WOMEN SOLIDARITY FOUNDATION (KADAV)
|
KADAV was founded following the 1999 Marmara earthquake by a group of women, who came together with the purpose of acting in solidarity with socially and economically affected women.
For 10 years KADAV worked on the empowerment of women and for this purpose organized vocational courses and gender mainstreaming activities, established income-generating small businesses, and provided women, who were exposed to violence, psychological and juridical support. In addition, KADAV contributed to the women’s movement in Turkey, which works collectively and advocates on the purpose of ensuring gender equality and legal improvement.
Since 2010, KADAV has been focusing on groups such as refugees and immigrants, who are at peril for being exposed to discrimination and gender-based violence as well as imprisoned women, who suffer from the usurpation of their rights, besides Turkish women and children. Likewise KADAV advocates and organizes workshops and trainings on the following subjects:
-
Gender-based discrimination and violence
-
Supporting access to livelihood and employment
-
Contributing to gender equality
KADAV is also the secretariat of the Women's Labor and Employment Initiative (KEIG), which was established in 2007. KEIG develops policies in increasing women's employment and working in humane conditions.
At KADAV, that opened its doors for migrant women from all nationalities in Turkey due to a variety of reasons as well as refugees, who were forced to flee their countries because of war, we support women,
-
Who have been exposed to violence at home, at workplace or on the streets,
-
Who have been exposed to ethnical, cultural and gender-based discrimination,
-
Who have been kept away from occupational and/or professional life and impoverished
We fight together against discrimination, violence and sexism. We act in solidarity and trying to open ways of empowerment.
What do we do at our WOMEN ADVICE and SOLIDARITY CENTER?
|
We are facilitating access to services ...
|
At KADAV, lawyers, psychologists, social care specialists and interpreters inform refugee women and facilitate them to access health care services, ID services, vocational courses, training services etc. When it’s needed, we provide legal and psychological support or we help them access institutions, where such services are provided.
We stand against all kinds of DISCRIMINATION…
|
Together we develop methods to stand up to all kinds of discrimination against women living in Turkey.
We help identify all kinds of discrimination against women, regardless of their appearance, religion, language, ethnic origin or marital status.
Together we say NO to all gender-based VIOLENCE…
|
As one of the main activities of KADAV, we say no to any kind of violence towards women. We know that violence can happen to anyone regardless of their social status and IT IS NEVER FATE but preventable!
All actions that result in or are likely to result in women's physical, sexual, psychological or economic damage or suffering are considered gender-based violence and violations of rights, whether on the street, at work or at home.
We provide psychological and legal support to women and children who face violence or are likely to be exposed to violence. We make it easier for them to access public services such as temporary protection and legal proceedings.
We carry out healing production and skill development workshops …
|
We also support the acquisition of skills in the production workshops that we have established to strengthen the relations of psychological healing and solidarity. In our production workshops, we provide all means of production tools which are mostly made up of recycled materials. We make it easy for the participants to use, design and produce these tools. For the participants who develop skills for a certain area, we provide guidance for finding jobs or generating income based on these skills. We provide them with the means to establish relations with institutions, where they can receive vocational training or business support.
In the production workshops, by sharing the enjoyments, expectations and aspirations of women, we aim to reveal the “healing” power and visibility of their problems as well as their talents. Together we design, produce and thus contribute to the development of ecological transformation awareness by using recycled materials that do not cause any hygiene problems.
We say NO to child abuse and discrimination against children …
In order to support women who have responsibilities related to their children’s upbringing, education, healthcare etc. as a result of their gender roles, we provide the following support to the children of women who come to the Counseling Center in the framework of the principles of children's rights.
Pre-school daily care: Child-friendly care, psycho-social support activities, creative drama, dance and music activities, assisted care with handcrafted activities.
We provide counseling and support to increase the school success for children's school enrollment procedures…
We facilitate access to advocacy, information, education and other institutions providing services in the field of sexual abuse of child, including child labor, child marriage.
